The pic is for those of you who liked Sophia's crazy hair!!! Her mama prefers it washed and brushed, but in the pics, it does look full of body!
Today was the first day I got out of the house. Ken, Josh and Zack spent the night at Kaylie's house about 5 miles from our house, and Sophia stayed home with mama as she fell fast asleep quite early. So, this morning, it was just me and Sophia. We went through our morning ritual of showers, brushing teeth, drying and fixing hair, and had an apple and some water. After this, we decided we wanted to go for a ride in the car. So, we drove around town a bit.
We noticed that there is no traffic here and no one speeds because you can't get away with it here. Imagine an open road with no traffic lights and having to drive 40MPH. It is just so not California!!! We finally ended up at a Sonic where I thought I'd try it out to see what it was like. Sophia enjoyed the experience and got a kick out of the food being served to us by a girl on roller skates. After this, we went to find the boys' schools. We found them without too much trouble and then Sophia began begging me to find her school! I told her she was too much crazy because I need her home with me for a little while longer.
We drove to Best Buy to visit Uncle Drew at his new store. This store is MUCH BIGGER than his Best Buy in Cali. However, Drew is having a tough time because the workers are quite a bit older and can talk your ear off. I know because I got caught in one such conversation while there. Anyhow, Sophia LOVES her Uncle Drew so she enjoyed seeing his new Best Buy.
Later I dropped Sophia off with Auntie Stephan and Uncle Mike, and I went grocery shopping at Kroger. It was weird shopping in a store that is completely foreign to me. It was also strange to shop for a house void of food. I spent $200 and the fridge still looks empty. For now, there are many mouths to feed her at this abode. At Kroger, they only have two choices of frozen burritos!!!! Can you believe that? My bro, Mike, likes them and until he finds a job out here I was counting on having him on a burrito diet (lol). I had to think outside the box and bought him some Kroger brand pizzas for fifty seven cents each!!! He said they were "okay," but they'll work as fillers until he is working and buying his own food. For those who don't know him, he is 18, 6 feet 2.5 and growing!!!! When my mom gets out her in the next month or two, he will be living at her place. He's a good boy with a ton of potential, and he's a great male role model for both my and Gina's kids. He is the one who took Kenny fishing today.
After grocery shopping, we had milk and cookies. Yep, we really did. Then we did some power cleaning and ended the day with bowling and Taco Bell. I fed adults and 4 children for $20!
Zack bowled a strike and a spare with no bumpers. He really is a great bowler and quite intense. Josh also bowled a strike and was SO EXCITED! Mike taught Kenny how to bowl w/o using the finger holes a while back and now he can bowl close to 100 each time. Sophia and Kaylie did their best but got mostly gutter balls. They are both socialites so it was no skin off of their backs as they just like to entertain.
Now, I am lying in bed typing my blog. Long day, but great to have spent it with my kids and extended family. The highlight of the day was Sophia in the cart at the store with me. She would lean forward and say, "Kiss me." Then, she would lean forward again and say, "Kiss me one more, mom." I would kiss her each time, and then she would say, "Just one more, please."
She has never done this before. She kisses me, but never so much!!!! She wasn't even asking me to buy her anything.
Tonight as I put all four kids to bed, each one prayed for many of you by name. And, they asked me, "Mom/D, why are you crying"? I said, "Sometimes people cry when they're happy, and I am so happy that I get to be with you in Texas." They smiled, and I smooched the four youngers and hugged Ken. Josh said, "It's okay, D, because God and Jesus gave us each udder." And, in so many ways, that is TRUE. In those few words, Josh reminded me that I am here to be a light to their little lives. The most important goal I have is to impart to Ken, Josh and my two how very much God loves them and how they can find true joy in relationship with Him.
So, with that, I cry another tear knowing that I really was crying because everything is so topsy turvy right now, and I am fueled by structure of which I have none right now. Pray for me as I seek to find a good church for the fam, and pray that Steph and Mike take kindly to attending with me and the kids. I wonder if Texans dress up for church...

Welcome to Texas!!! It is great reading your blog b/c when we moved to CA, I experienced all of the same things, except in reverse. My husband is from CA, so we have this ongoing "debate" about the differences.
The two worst months in Texas are July and August because of the heat, so you are getting those out of the way first.
Your experience at Best Buy is funny...yes, we seem to be more "chatty" here... but we like to think of it as "southern hospitality." lol Our neighbors are from CA and it has taken them a while to get used to it. Hopefully you will find Frisco very family friendly.
I like Frisco, TX very much!!! And, I do like the friendly people. It is just so shocking to be talked to as a friend by someone I don't know.
I am told that once school starts, the kids will have instant friends and invitations for play dates, etc... I hope that is true!
I can picture you crying D, and I can picture Josh comforting you. I can also picture Zack bowling and his intensity. I can also picture all of you there and ME being there when I visit in less than two weeks!
Things will settle down - remember when we moved into the house right before Christmas???? It was so hard but it was a wonderful year full of beautiful memories. Maybe I will play the DVDs to remind you! Mom popping it like it's hot, and so much more!
Things will settle down, my friend. I love and miss you.
Frisco is fabulous. Clean and bright, nice people, very family-friendly. I wish I still lived there! People do not get dressed up for church, especially when it is really hot, like now! I hope you all (actually, that should be all y'all) really enjoy it.
Great picture of Sophia! Love the crazy hair.
Thanks for sharing about your day-it was liking being there in person. Moving is the pits. But think of how good everything will be when you are unpacked, the boys are in school, and things are settled. You'll feel right at home because home is where your heart is, and I know your heart is captured by 4 very special kids in Texas! You're such a great mom/auntie!
Sending lots of love from Cali! It's hot here, too. :-)
when the kids mention names do they mention me? 0=)
Yes, the kids pray for Hedder and Awwie, Juanda and Uncle Don and Rona and Liz and sometimes they even rembember Jesse! :) They pray for Amy too!

oh btw. i love the picture of sophia <3
Thanks for details of the day. I'm glad to see that some things don't change, like bowling. D, you'll get on a schedule soon enough and forget about the topsy turvy life you're leading right now. I'm praying for all of you and miss you very much.
